THE GOAL
BE PROFESSIONAL
BE PROFESSIONAL
OH! AND BE PROFESSIONAL
TO DO AN AMAZING JOB FOR ALL CLIENTS AS IF IT WAS YOUR WEDDING DAY; MOREOVER, TO BE INSPIRATION FOR OTHER FELLOW PHOTOGRAPHERS OR PEOPLE THAT WOULD LIKE TO LEARN THE ART.
At some point in a wedding photographer’s career, a curious guest at the dinner table will ask them “What’s the worst thing that’s ever happened at a wedding you photographed?” In truth, something goes wrong at every wedding, but professional vendors do their best to rectify situations quickly and without disrupting the wedding day flow. Here’s why when you hire a professional wedding photographer you might be getting even more than you bargained for.
Acts as a Semi-Professional Weather Forecaster. If you think you’ve been obsessing over the weather forecast for your wedding day, rest assured your photographer has been too. And while you are praying for the weather gods to shoo away the 80 percent chance of rain forecasted, your photographer has likely been calling local indoor hotels, museums, and any other photo-worthy locations to obtain permits or permission to photograph there. They’re on local wedding Facebook groups asking other photographers if they know of good places to photograph while being sheltered from the rain. They’re running to Target to buy as many white golf umbrellas as they can find. While you are at the salon, they’re checking their weather app and seeing when the breaks in the weather are. Most importantly, they’re making a plan so that no matter what the weather brings, you will have amazing photos.
We love having relationships with local vendors. Want to know who has the best cake in the city? What DJ keeps the floor rocking but doesn’t do cheesy air guitar impressions when working? Ask your photographer. Walter Aleman Photography and Events has photographed at least 200 weddings as the lead photographer, so we've seen the good, the bad and the ugly. While most pros won’t outwardly disparage another vendor, they will happily tell you their favorites. We want to work with vendors who do a great job and provide beautiful things to photograph!
Believe it or not Walter Aleman and his crew have a minor in Wedding Planning. Here’s a list of things we have been reported doing during a wedding day:
-
Pinning on Boutonnieres
-
Sewing up torn bustles
-
Showing bridesmaids how to hold bouquets
-
Has a first aid kit in their gear bag
-
Finding cake cutting tools when they are missing
-
Advising guests where the card box is at the reception
-
Making an impromptu toss bouquet from flowers on the table
You’ll spend more time with your wedding photographer than any other vendor on your wedding day. Having a trained, professional photographer who makes you feel comfortable will show in your wedding photos! When you choose an Walter Aleman Photography and Events Photography and Videography for your wedding, you can be sure that you are hiring the best of the best.
The advice I would give an aspiring entrepreneur in the photography industry is to “dream big, have a vision of what you want to do in photography.” I have to emphasize the importance of taking a course on the business aspect of photography. learning the business aspect of photography was the key factor in my success. There is so much more to learn then just clicking the shutter. I highly recommend getting an internship. Learn from others who have the experience…learning is always the key. Everyone has their own style. You have to find yours. One must learn the ability to adapt and be resourceful in unexpected situations… look at the view finder with a creative eye… think imaginatively but also strategically.
I believe the areas of opportunities and innovation in photography lie in having the confidence to take on big, ambitious goals and take risks when shooting. Be different than the other photographers, dont do the same or copy. I also believe it is innovative to share and collaborate with other photographers instead of obsessively guarding your secrets and techniques. I believe my photography is an art form meant to be shared with anyone who wants to learn the craft.
The best way to become an expert in photography, regardless of the type or subject matter, is to find your niche, then become amazing at it. One should do your homework. Look at what’s trending, see what other photographers are saying. Go to meetings, join photography organizations. I want to reemphasizes the importance of finding a mentor and I will state that my mentors our still my good friends to this day and my mentors are the reason I am the photographer I am. Love you always Roy, Junior, Rosina and Carlos. I love you all very much!
